Cyst Excisions at Atlanta West Dermatology

Introduction

A cyst excision is a surgical procedure to remove a cyst, which is a fluid-filled sac that can form in the skin or underneath it. Cysts can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, blockages of hair follicles, or conditions like sebaceous cysts. At Atlanta West Dermatology, we offer cyst excisions to remove these growths, ensuring minimal scarring and discomfort.

Benefits

• Complete removal of the cyst, reducing the chance of recurrence.

• Relief from discomfort caused by the cyst, especially if it is painful or inflamed.

• Aesthetic improvement, as the cyst is removed in a manner that minimizes scarring.

Procedure Details

• The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, numbing the area around the cyst.

• The dermatologist will make a small incision and carefully remove the cyst and its contents.

• The incision may be closed with stitches, which will be removed in about 1-2 weeks.

Recovery & Results

• Downtime: Recovery time is typically short, with most patients returning to normal activities within a few days. It's best to avoid strenuous activity until the wound is healed.

• Side effects: Possible swelling, redness, or slight bruising at the incision site. There may be a small risk of infection.

• Expected improvements: The cyst will be fully removed, and most patients experience a complete resolution of discomfort. Scarring is minimal with proper care.

Who is a Good Candidate?

• People with cysts that cause discomfort, pain, or cosmetic concerns.

• Those with recurrent cysts that need to be permanently removed.
